Board Certified Equine Veterinary Dentist®
A Diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College® (AVDC) is an animal veterinarian who has been certified by AVDC as having demonstrated specialist knowledge and expertise in veterinary dentistry as a result of completing the AVDC training requirements and having successfully passed the AVDC examination.
AVDC is recognized as the specialist certification organization in veterinary dentistry in North America by the American Board of Veterinary Specialties. AVDC diplomates are veterinary dental specialists.
In 2014 the American Veterinary Dental College’s Equine Dental Specialty was formally recognized as a specialty for those veterinarians with advanced dental training for horses and other equids.
With the acceptance of the new equine specialty, existing diplomates may refer as to themselves as non-species specific or as a small animal veterinary dental specialist, which includes dentists for dogs and cats.
Dental specialists with advanced zoo and wildlife certification will be noted by a Tiger symbol.
A Founding Fellow in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) is an AVDC Diplomate who has obtained additional training and experience, or has demonstrated expertise in OMFS, beyond AVDC surgery residency training and published in the field of OMFS. OMFS Founding Fellows are noted by a OMFS symbol.
